State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.

My name is Cesar Sanchez. My kennel is Bullrush Kennels located in Midland, Texas.

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

I breed XL American Bullies. Seeing King Zion from Kings and Queens Bullies is what inspired me to get involved with XL Bullies.

What is your favorite bloodline? 

I don’t have a favorite bloodline, but my favorite XL studs are Champion Pressure, Champion Onsight, and Champion Top Gun.

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?

I think what determines a responsible dog breeder is how someone cares for their dogs. The health and well being of the dog comes first. Health testing is very important and I believe females shouldn’t be bred before they are 2 years of age. They need plenty of time to mature and time to finish growing. Always breed with a purpose and a vision to improve the breed.

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

I feed my dogs Victor High Pro Plus, Salmon Oil, and Dyne.

Are there any specific brands of dog food that you recommend?

I recommend Victor High Pro Plus.

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

My dogs get fed twice a day.

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

We have a 3 acre facility where we let our dogs out twice a day to run around and play fetch. Our outside runs are 30ft by 30ft where they have plenty of room to run around comfortably.

Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from Bullrush Kennels from start to finish.

The process of purchasing a dog is pretty simple.

• First, I like to ask what they are looking for in a puppy. That way we can recommend a puppy that meets their needs.
• If we have a litter on the ground we let them know what picks are available.
• A deposit will hold their pick.
• At 6 weeks of age the remainder of the balance is due and picks are made.
• Puppies go home after 8 weeks of age.

Do you currently show any of your dogs?

We don’t show any of our dogs at the moment, but we have a couple prospects that we will be showing this upcoming year.

What advice does Bullrush Kennels have for any upcoming breeders?

For any upcoming breeders I recommend to do your research on the breed and then find a mentor.  It’s very important to gain knowledge from someone that has experience with the breed.

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

I think the most important thing for anyone to overcome in the bully game is envy and hate. Many breeders that feel you're a threat do not want you to succeed and talk about you and your dogs.

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

My advice is to stay in your own lane and don’t fall into the negativity. Help the people that reach out to you and follow your vision. Don’t worry about what the other person is doing.

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

The two people that I look up to in the bully game are John Gonzalez from Blueberry Kennels, and Ricky Lopez from Texas Bully Alliance. They’re good honest people. Their breeding programs are top notch, and they have always helped me out when I needed it.

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.

Ten years from now hopefully the XL class has evolved to have the same build, body type, and breed type as the standard American Bully.

What separates Bullrush Kennels from the competition?

I don’t compare my program to other kennels. I just try to focus on my goals and better myself as a breeder.

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?

My other hobby is quarter horse racing.

What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?

I truly recommend Bully Girl Magazine. It has very interesting and knowledgeable articles that educate on the history of the bully breeds. My favorite are the interviews with other breeders that share tips and knowledge of the breed.
