Nawfside Kennels: XL American Bully Breeder in Georgia

Nawfside Kennels: XL American Bully Breeder in Georgia

State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.

My name is Russell Fredrick and I own Nawfside Kennels located in Atlanta, GA. My Instagram is @nawfsidekennels.

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

So far we only breed XL American Bullies but French bulldogs are on the way.

What is your favorite bloodline?

I’ve always had American Pitbull Terriers growing up but never on a breeding level because I was always on the go. When life began to slow down for me, I came across Bossy Kennels instagram page and fell in love.

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
In my opinion, responsible breeders need to be compassionate, professional animal lovers with a hustlers ambition. You should also be a student of the game.

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

All of my dogs are on a mostly raw diet. They are able to free-feed on kibble throughout the day with either goat milk or salmon oil, but their evening meal consists of a healthy mix of meat, organs, and bones. I never mix kibble & raw.

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

We feed the dogs 2-3 times a day.

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

As far as keeping the pack in shape, we rotate mile walks or group time in the yard and they run themselves crazy. We are looking to add treadmills and spring pole setups to our yard very soon.

Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from Nawfside Kennels from start to finish.

When selling a pup we try to get a feel for potential buyers through various ways. FaceTime is always the best to give buyers an idea of how pups are cared for, and it’s good for us to see who we are dealing with. We are very quick to respond to all of our social media platforms, and once a client decides to pull the trigger and get one of our babies, we email a puppy contract and a deposit is sent in. Depending on the buyers’ preference, ears can be cropped, and all pups will be up to date on vaccines with registration papers in hand.

Do you currently show any of your dogs?
We’ve been to a few shows, but  haven’t had a chance to show any of our productions as of yet. Although, we are looking to get very active in the near future.

What advice does Nawfside Kennels have for any upcoming breeders?

To all my up-and-coming breeders, make sure you have the time and resources to breed. Getting into this solely for the money is a very bad idea. Just like any business, a return on your investment isn’t quick; and caring for a dog while waiting on said return will probably double or triple your total investment. Oh yeah, start with a dope female.

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

The most difficult thing for some people to overcome in this game is scamming and over-saturation. Tons of people are breeding for the dollar and disregarding breed standards. It’s hurting newbies because they are buying pet-quality pups with the intent to breed.

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

To beat this, people need to do their due diligence before sending anyone any money. Seek legit references. If you are not able to physically put your hands on parents or pups before purchase, at bare minimum, FaceTime the sellers. Pictures are cool, but videos tell the truth.

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

If I’m going to be 100, Bossy has an empire that’s unmatched and I love what they’ve done and are still doing. Aside from them here are some i look up to: Gatorhead Bullies, Monster Bully Kennels, Blueberry Kennels, Florida State Bully’s, and Manmade Kennels (trust me I can keep going). They’ve built a following and they are consistently dropping heat.

Tell us about one of Nawfside Kennels main goals for 2022.

One of my main goals in 2022 is to get my current studs “Doomsday”, “Rolo” , and “Marsh-Mello” out there and compete in some shows and put them to work. Seeing what they can produce will bring a smile to my face.

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.

10 years from now, I hope I’m a major factor in this game and that the breed is still thriving. Hopefully the hate within the game will have come to an end. There’s hate in every profession, but I see more bashing than passing of knowledge, and that’s only hurting the dogs.

What separates Nawfside Kennels from the competition?

I’m not sure if it separates me from the competition, but I’m trying to produce well-rounded bully’s that can excel in every aspect: Show quality, protection, working, or simply amazing companions.

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?

I'm a father of 5, a licensed master barber, and I own a shop called A-1 Kutz. Aside from that, I’m looking to get my hands in real estate, so I’m always busy.

What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?

I really appreciate Bully Girl Magazine for taking the time to speak with me. I didn’t think I had this much to talk about. It’s dope that you’re using your platform to reach out to growing kennels in this game. It’s definitely an honor to be a part of your journey.
