Coal Mountain Bullies | Pocket and XL Bully Breeder in West Virginia

State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located?

Our names are Samuel,  Andrea, and Mariah Thomas. Mariah covers the majority of social media. We call ourselves Coal Mountain Bullies. You can find us in Charleston, West Virginia.

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

We mainly have pocket bullies now. Originally, we fell in love with the Bully breed when we got our first bully, Tank. Tank is more of a Classic/XL. Bullies have the best personalities and amazing physiques.

What is your favorite bloodline?

Our favorite bloodline is Dax through Rocko-Mania. We're adding Heatwave with our newest girl Rosa Parks. Big bones, big muscles and big heads.

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?

A breeders biggest concern should be the health and happiness of the dogs involved. Clean facilities, proper nutrition, and placing your pups in quality homes is a must.

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

We feed Victor Beef Meal and Rice. We rotate supplements to keep them from getting bored, using: coconut oil, pumpkin, Nu-pro, Origins, and Dyne.

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

Our dogs are fed twice a day.

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

We like to go on walks at least four times a week. They'll chase a tennis ball all day at the dog park. We're working on a treadmill setup for these cold rainy days.

Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from Coal Mountain Bullies from start to finish.

We always like to make sure our pups are going into a great home. Also, we like to wait until the ear crops have healed.

  • First, they contact us on any of our Social Media platforms. We encourage video chats.
  • Then, we give the buyer the pups basic info, like the dates of shots and wormer, and their registration info.
  • Finally, we meet up with the future owners and ask them to send plenty of pictures and videos to watch them grow. We never sell a pup to somebody, then forget about them.

Do you currently show any of your dogs?

We have been working with our two males, Tank and Frosty. We've taken our males, Zeke and Frosty with two of our past productions to a local fun show, where they won their first ribbons. We're planning on attending our first big show in February of 2021.

What advice does Coal Mountain Bullies have for any upcoming breeders?

Always keep your dogs at top health and shape, for happy dogs and pups. Be kind and positive about other kennels and breeders. Make sure you keep your eye out for scammers. Never come into the bully game for the money. You're going to spend more than you make.

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

I think it's hard for new breeders to overcome the haters. Social media has made everyone an expert, and given them a platform to speak.

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

I think people can overcome this by having friends and allies that are also in the bully game. Keep your dogs the focus.

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

We look up to Khanh Nguyen, the owner of RockoMania and the Phoking Style bloodline. We admire the way he has built his brand. Also, we appreciate King Atlas Bullies and how kind they`ve been to us.

Tell us about one of Coal Mountain Bullies main goals for 2021.

Our main goal for 2021 is bigger facilities, with outdoor kennels and a large play yard.

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.

We want Coal Mountain Bullies to be in the conversation of the best Bullies in the game.

What separates Coal Mountain Bullies from the competition?

Our kennel is unique because we are located in West Virginia, and there aren't many breeders here at all. Also our Classic/XL bully, Tank, is a piebald Trindle. He has a pretty unique coat pattern.

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?

With all these dogs, who has time for anything else? We do like to follow our local college football and basketball teams, WVU Mountaineers. We like to try all the new offerings from local breweries. If we can get away for a day, we'll go to Summersville Lake or spend a day in New River Gorge.

What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?

Bully Girl Magazine is a great way to learn if you are new to the bully game. You can purchase their magazines and get plenty of information about Bullies, French bulldogs, and English Bulldogs.
