402 Frenchies: French Bulldog Breeder in Nebraska

402 Frenchies: French Bulldog Breeder in Nebraska

State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.

My name is Sarah O'Callaghan, and my kennel is called 402 Frenchies located in Omaha, Nebraska.

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

At 402 Frenchies, I breed French Bulldogs specializing in exotic colors, lilacs, blues, chocolates, platinum, tri, and merles.

What is your favorite bloodline?

I have not done enough research to really say what my favorite bloodline is.

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?

Characteristics of an ethical breeder include extensive research into the breed, providing sanitary and clean living, making sure the dogs socialize with other dogs, cats, kids, and people, providing a healthy diet, and following nutritional research on what is the best to feed your dogs.

Keep your dogs healthy with regular vet checks, and make sure you have all of the products needed for reproduction such as newborn and whelping medical equipment and medicine. Also make sure you are researching other breeders, pedigrees, health records, DNA, and checking to see if the dogs possess the correct structure and temperament for the breed.

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

My frenchies are on a raw diet. To help with tear stains and allergies they also only drink filtered water.

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

I feed my adult frenchies smaller portions twice a day. I will use slow feeders to help slow down scarfing food down and vomiting.

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

I keep my dogs in shape by walking them daily, as well as playing with toys and balls in the fenced backyard.

Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from 402 Frenchies from start to finish.

  • We have a puppy application that has to be filled out.
  • I select potential customers from that list, and wait until puppies are at least 3 weeks to post them and make them available.
  • Each customer will sign a puppy contract after we perform an assessment.
  • The puppies go home at 10 weeks to ensure they are old enough with up to date shots for age, microchip, and DNA, along with AKC paperwork.
  • We send care packages with the new owner along with a toy bandana and small bag of food.
  • We also offer a packet on pet insurance, and will mentor any of our customers.
  • We check up to ensure the puppies are adjusting in their new home. We also encourage updates and follows on social media platforms.

Do you currently show any of your dogs?

402 Frenchies currently does not show any dogs.

What advice does 402 Frenchies have for any upcoming breeders?

Research, research, research. Ask the breeder who sold you your dogs to mentor you. This should be a service provided.

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

The stigma that women can’t be dog breeders. I cannot tell you how many times people think I am a man or call me “bro” or “dude.” They assume that because I breed,  I must be a man.

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

Having more women get into the bully breeding game. We need help to overcome this male patriarchy industry. We need more women to speak up.

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

Bold North Frenchies. She is a woman breeder who is very educated and shares her knowledge on the breed, breeding, diet, nutrition, and DNA. She shares her knowledge, whereas other breeders can be rude and greedy if asked.

Tell us about one of 402 Frenchies main goals for 2022.

My goals for 2022 is to continue to grow my kennel, and educate people on proper diet and nutrition of french bulldogs.

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.

I would love to see more women breeders accepted in the community. Also, I would like to see the male attitude of not helping out new breeders or selling pet dogs as breeders to stop. Lastly, I also would like to see the end of backyard breeding.

What separates 402 Frenchies from the competition?

What separates 402 Frenchies from others is that my dogs are my family. I do not treat them as a business. They are spoiled rotten and get to live outside of crates (except for bedtime and feeding). Wherever the family goes, the dogs go. Also, a lot of nutritional research goes into my dog's diet. I incorporate a lot of safe fruit and veggies as well as the raw diet.

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?

I take part in educating people on the breed, and dog nutrition. I also make healthy charcuterie boards for dogs full of safe fruits, veggies, and dog treats that people love.

What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?

I am glad Bully Girl Magazine was created to showcase women in the industry.
