Share
State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.
My name is Angelina Henson Zuniga, and I own Rock Kalibur Bullys located in Talladega, Alabama.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
At Rock Kalibur Bullies, we breed American Bullies. I got my first American Bully in 2015 and went to my first ABKC show to meet other breeders; that’s how I got to know more about the breed. That was the beginning of my inspiration with them. I absolutely love the temperament and look of the American Bully.
What is your favorite bloodline?
Gooch is what my foundation blood came from. I would say that's my absolute favorite. I have added in Lucky and Louis V blood and recently Rocko (All Dax blood) which has become my favorite blood to work with.
In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
A characteristic of a responsible dog breeder is learning about this breed and really putting in the work to be educated. Taking care of the the dogs’ needs and well being is most important. Also, how you conduct yourself is very important.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
My dogs are on Purina One and True Instincts. I've done some research, and came up with a few brands that have the best ingredients for their diet. We do raw food occasionally too as a treat.
How many times a day do you feed your dogs?
My dogs are free fed. There is no set time.
How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?
I've got acreage here for them to run and play. During the summer time we incorporate water activities, (pool, lake, water hose, etc) which they love .
Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from Rock Kalibur Bullys from start to finish.
- I start by answering any questions the potential customer may have (blood, pedigree, cost, etc).
- I let them know how to make a deposit to hold a puppy. Sometimes we have co-ownership opportunities as well.
- Contracts are next, and I help with any questions they may have to make sure the contract is understood clearly as well as pay off date for shipping arrangements.
- I always update my clients with videos and pictures of their pups.
- All pups are up-to-date on all vaccines, health checks, etc. We offer flight nanny service if available at the time or ground shipping.
- We love seeing the pup in their new homes and having a happy customer.
- Thats just the beginning of the relationship for me as I will be keeping in touch to get updates and watch their bully grow. They have breeder support for life from me. I always make that clear.
Do you currently show any of your dogs?
Yes, I have ABKC Champion/BRC Grand Champion Rock Kalibur's MAYHEM (One of Champion Lucky's best sons). We have a couple of Champion wins in ABKC for him to be a Dual Grand Champion. I also have a couple of other prospects, including his half sister and son that will be hitting the show ring soon.
What advice does Rock Kalibur Bullys have for any upcoming breeders?
Lots of different advice I can give. Start with quality dogs if you are new. Save up and don't cut corners in your breeding program. How you promote your dog goes a long way too. Buy a nice camera, learn how to take pictures and do your dog justice. Learn pedigrees. You don't just put 2 nice dogs together. Learn how to read and break down a pedigree. Most importantly find yourself a mentor, someone that will help you and guide you.
What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
There are going to be losses. You might put thousands into a breeding and it didn't take, or other things happen. There will be setbacks. Not everyone can handle this or what it takes to be a breeder. It's a 24/7 job.
How do you think they can overcome this problem?
Once again educating yourself and having a mentor. Understanding that there will be losses is probably the best way to overcome it.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
There are quite a few breeders that have been doing this longer than me, that I look up to. One I've always looked up to is Venomline Camp (Matt Siebenthal). I love their dogs and have partnered with them on some breedings etc.. Matt is a stand up breeder and has made a brand for himself. He has helped me a long way to where I'm at now.
Tell us about one of Rock Kalibur Bullys main goals for 2022.
My main goals for this year are for the upcoming breedings I have planned. These breedings will produce the next level of Bullies, and the next generation will outdo the generation before them. Also I want to Achieve this ABKC Grand Champion Status with MAYHEM, and to get some of his offspring Champed and Grand Champed out this year.
Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.
I want there to be more consistency in the breed. Right now there are so many different looks and bullies. It's still a pretty new breed. This is one of the fastest growing breeds. I would love to see a more similar look and consistency, as well as better health of the dogs.
What separates Rock Kalibur Bullys from the competition?
The way I conduct business and try to go that extra mile for my clients. My integrity definitely separates me from the competition, as well as the beautiful dogs here at Rock Kalibur Bullys. We provide foundation dogs for other breeders.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
Besides dogs, lol. I love to travel, see new places and enjoy good food. I love horses, but haven't found the time to go toward that hobby at the moment.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
I've always thought Bully Girl Magazine is an amazing platform for bully enthusiasts, new comers, or anyone for that matter. Bully Girl helps people to get educated about the breed, find good breeders and get overall information.
