Red-Dirt Bullys: Bully Breeder in Houston, Texas

State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.

Hello, I am Breanna Knox, a partner of Red-Dirt Bullys located in Austin and Houston, Texas.

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

Here at Red-Dirt we breed all shapes, sizes, and breeds of bulls. From the smallest merle english bulldog found in Texas to the grand champion frenchies to the show stopping nanos, we truly have it all. I do personally love my bullies over other breeds because there are so many different classes and styles.

What is your favorite bloodline?

One of my favorite bloodlines would have to be Bullsace, but Dax will always be my favorite.

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?

Protect your babies. Pay attention to them, they can't talk so they rely on us. Regular vet visits and hygiene is huge! Responsible breeders take a lot of time, energy, and money caring for their animals. They should always make sure the dogs are getting lots of exercise, eating the best food, and living their best lives.

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

Our dogs eat Simply Nourish dog food: from wet food and toppers to dry kibble and treats.

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

Here in my yard we feed twice a day.

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

Keeping your dog active will increase the happiness and overall well being of your dog. Just letting your dog run around is plenty. Our dogs have a lot of playtime inside and outside. Playing with tug ropes and chasing the tennis ball is their favorite.

Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from Red-Dirt Bullys from start to finish.

Here is the process of buying a puppy from our kennel:

  •  We would start with questions about what you are looking for and why.
  • When we know what you're looking for, we then will go over what we have available and possibly what we have on the way. We strongly recommend visiting our kennel or meeting in a safe place to evaluate.
  • When we find your perfect match, we will move on to the contract, payment, and delivery.
  • Every puppy comes with certified vet health documentation and approval of re-home.

Do you currently show any of your dogs?

Our dogs are show dogs. We spend lots of time stacking and practicing.

What advice does Red-Dirt Bullys have for any upcoming breeders?

If there is any advice I could give upcoming breeders I would say just do it the right way. Don't take those short cuts, always follow your vision, and if it feels wrong it probably is so don't do it.

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

One of the most difficult things to overcome in this bully game is loss. You can go year after year not making a dime, puppies passing, and your breedings not taking. There are lots of losses that can happen and I have personally seen people give up and get out because of it. I have also seen people work harder and rebuild and still strive for the best.

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

The only way to overcome these big losses is to stay positive and love what you do. If you don't love the breed or have a passion for these animals, then breeding should not even be a thought. It's never about what we get out of it, but always about loving every minute of it.

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

There are a few people in this dog game I look up to for many different reasons. My number one would have to be my kennel partner Blake Ashmore. You name it he's got it. The way his dogs live to the generosity and love he provides to the community, there’s so much to admire about him.

Tell us about one of Red-Dirt Bullys main goals for 2022.

My main goal of 2022 is to buy land to start our expansion: adding more luxury features for the dogs.

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.

10 years from now, I would like to see the bully community held to a higher standard and for breeders to show more support and love for one another.

What separates Red-Dirt Bullys from the competition?

What separates our kennel from the competition is hard work and dedication. We are non-stop focused on our dogs from the second we wake up to the moment we close our eyes–it's nothing but dogs on the brain. We spend countless hours training and socializing.

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?

I do AIS, TCIS, Ultrasounds, photography, whelping, and progesterone Testing. My passion is the dogs, so my hobbies became my life.

What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?

I think Bully Girl Magazine is awesome. Being able to read about other kennels and see what's going on in the bully community always has me waiting for the next issue.
