Rawsource Kennels: Kentucky XL American Bully Breeder

Rawsource Kennels: Kentucky XL American Bully Breeder

State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.

My name is Trey Haddix, founder of Rawsource Kennels. You can find us in Lexington, KY.

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

Rawsource Kennels breeds the American XL Bully. I fell in love the breed, as soon as I became familiar with all of the ideal characteristics and qualities involved. The sheer muscle mass, the loyalty, and family orientated demeanor. I love it!

What is your favorite bloodline?

Actually, I have a few favorite bloodlines. Iron Cross, Muglestone, and Greyline just to name a few.

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?

Responsible breeders breed with the intention of good health. They strive to achieve the look and traits of their vision, while staying within the guidelines.

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

At Rawsource Kennels, we feed premium kibble daily. We also give a mix of RAW, 2-3 times a week.

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

Bullies over a year old are fed once per day. All of our puppies eat twice a day.

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

Our dogs are kept with a lot of room to run. Most of them love the water, and they also love to fetch and chase. One of my favorite things to do is allowing them to chase my 4wd RC truck, with a toy attached. We keep them very active.

Does Rawsource Kennels currently show any dogs?

We currently are not in the show ring, but we will be very very soon.

What advice does Rawsource Kennels have for any upcoming breeders?

Get you a mentor that can show you things the right way. That mentor should always have you and the breeds best interest at heart. Study the breed, study bloodlines and traits, and go to local bully shows to get a better understanding of things.

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

Trends! Stay true to your vision.

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

Don't be inconsistent with your vision. You don’t have to switch things up, just because something else has built a nice following or is trending.

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

I look up to people and programs who are willing to pass on knowledge, do good business, and are truly good people at heart. I feel like those are the people who will last, and push this breed forward even after we are all done.

Tell us about one of Rawsource Kennels main goals for the year 2020.

In 2020, our main goal is to continue our quest to produce real deal complete XL bulls. We are setting up our 2021 show ring run. Hopefully this pandemic ceases to exist by then.

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.

Rawsource Kennels would like the breed to be recognized by some of the more prominent registries. We would also like the trends in color and style to end, and for people to focus more on build and structure.

What separates your kennel from the competition?

Rawsource Kennels is a family run, up and coming kennel. I feel like our passion and commitment is immense. We love the XL bully breed: the bone, dome, extremeness, and big rear.

Rawsource Kennels has taken many steps to keep those traits being produced. Our customer service and willingness to go the extra mile, is a factor I feel will seperate us.

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?

I enjoy family time, fishing, and watching sports.

What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?

Bully Girl Magazine is awesome. The Bully Girl platform is great for those seeking knowledge and breeder fellowship. Positivity at its finest!
