Church's Bullies: American Bully Breeder in Delaware

State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.

We are Church’s Bullies, owned and operated by Garry and Jordan Church, and we are located in Greenwood, Delaware. 

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

At Church’s Bullies, we breed American Bullies. Pocket,  XL, and we are planning to have a couple of French Bulldog litters in the future. As for inspiration, the love and look of the American Bully immediately grabbed us.  We had staffy-mixes and they were the best, but nothing compared to the temperament and “wow” factor we experienced when we met our first American Bully. A good friend introduced me to a local kennel and we ended up becoming infatuated with the breed.  

What is your favorite bloodline?

Overall, the number one bloodline we favor would have to be the classical Razors Edge by Dave Wilson. We also really fell in love with Ghangis Khan. 

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?

First and foremost, put the dogs first! Keep them healthy, happy, and fed well. Too many breeders don’t abide by this and you can see it too much and too often. One must prepare and study the fundamentals of breeding. One must be coachable and prepare to have good and bad criticism thrown their way. Lastly, be organized, attentive, conscientious, and have pride in what you do. 

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

We use primarily the lamb and rice formula of Purina ProPlan for all ages. This kibble balances well between our entire pack and keeps them happy and well fed. It has good protein and a source of nutrients needed for any dog. We look to get into raw dieting this upcoming year. 

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

We feed them two times a day. Treats are given every now and then, and supplements once a day. 

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

We have a great backyard for the dogs to enjoy as they wish. They have a tug pole mounted, and we only work the ones who actually like to work on it. 

Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from Church's Bullies from start to finish.

Here is the process of purchasing a pup from Church’s Bullies: 

• We speak over the phone and find out a bit about the potential buyer
• A contract is sent via email.
• Once the contract is read, signed, and returned, we request the deposit to secure the puppy or pick for the buyer. 
• We will continue to whelp, care for, and nurture the pup until they are old enough to go to their new forever home. 
• We arrange shipping or delivery for the client and puppy to finally meet and begin their relationship with each other! 

Do you currently show any of your dogs?

We have shown in the American Bully Kennel Club and plan to show our own productions more so than our foundational stock. 

What advice does Church's Bullies have for any upcoming breeders?

Here is the advice I would give to upcoming breeders:

• Maintain morale and motive
• Work hard. Nobody gets ahead by doing the bare minimum. 
• Pay attention to those around you. They can be one way and appear as another.
• Do research! Breeding is a fundamental art and requires a lot of brain and a little of brawn. 

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

The biggest thing for people in the bully game to overcome is the fear of missing out. And by that I mean, don't sell out on your dogs. Don't do something that can be detrimental to your program for the hype or greed or the "bully world". 

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

A way to overcome the “fear of missing out” hurdle in the bully game is to maintain or better the standard. Your vision should be the American Bully standard. 

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

We look up to the ones who helped us get where we are today and appreciate those who continue to grow as a family with us. For example, we look up to ShowDogBullies, BaldMountainBullies, ActionPackredBullies for help and support. And then there is Bossy Kennels and Top Dog Bullies who create publicity and generate the hype that drives this breed to betterment and provides exclusivity.

Tell us about one of Church's Bullies main goals for 2022.

The main goal of Church’s Bullies is to complete our facility for the dogs. We are young, and we spent the first 2 years of this journey acquiring our foundational stock and family.  

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.

Ten years from now, we would love to see more health testing and conformation breeding. The hobby-breeding and money-hungry-breeders need to be weaned out and “blackflagged,” so to speak. They don't properly care nor breed ethically for their dogs. We put the dogs first over profit and personal life--we signed up for this lifestyle. The sooner the community understands the standard and importance of healthy bulls the sooner we are recognized as a breed of merit. 

What separates Church's Bullies from the competition?

We aren't the average breeders. At Church’s Bullies, we put blood, sweat and tears into our dogs. We put the dogs first and our productions speak for themselves. We are still up-and-coming and wish to continue to improve and provide the best American Bullies. 

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?

We love to spend time as a couple and travel (as hard as that is to do right now). From the beach, to the city, to the woods, we love it all and everything that comes with it.
