State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.
We are Belle Martinez & Joel Saenz, of J&B Bully Kennel. You can find us in Seguin, Texas.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
When I first saw an American Bully, I felt a sense of passion come to my heart. I knew I wanted to be a breeder, but I was unsure which breed I wanted to choose. American Bullies have a special place in my heart.
What is your favorite bloodline?
My personal favorite bloodline would have to be the Primeyard bloodline. Each dog holds so much mass without obtaining sloppy features. Those are the most beautiful dogs I’ve come to see. I’m glad I was able to get a direct daughter off of Primeyard Trinidad.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
Throughout the year we feed our dogs Purina Pro-Plan 30/20 formula. We chose this kibble diet based on the fact that Purina hires veterinary nutritionists, unlike most other kibble brands.
How many times a day do you feed your dogs?
Dogs under a year old get fed twice a day. After they hit a year or a certain maturity point, we transition them to once a day.
How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?
While the cold weather can be tough to get out in sometimes, we never pass up an opportunity to get our dogs the exercise they need. Flirt poles are a huge favorite of our girls!
Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from your kennel from start to finish.
From the second a client reaches out to J&B Bully Kennel for services, they are given and treated with the most pristine customer service. Instead of directly talking about prices and what we expect from them, we first reach out and ask if there is anything they expect from us.
We truly enjoy building relationships with our clients. This assures us as well that our pups will be very well cared for at their new home, just as they were before leaving our kennel.
Do you currently show any of your dogs?
We currently have not shown any of the dogs we own. Our main goal in the upcoming year is to show our own productions from our kennel.
What advice do you have for any upcoming breeders?
This is a business, and you should treat it as one. Make sure to not cut any corners and stick to your own vision.
What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
I think the most difficult thing to overcome in the bully game would be the amount of criticism, and competition you will come across. If you can stay head strong, and confident in what you know, you will be able to easily overcome it.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
Bossy Kennels has so much consistency with their production. They hold the image of what a consistent, established kennel should be. We look up to them.
Tell us about one of your main goals for the year 2021.
Our main goal for 2021 is to continue building our foundation and produce the most beautiful, correct, and healthy American Bullies.
Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.
Ten years from now I would hope to see a significant change in the stigma against the American Bully breed. I would hope that people would become more educated on where these types of dogs originated.
What separates your kennel from the competition?
J&B Bully Kennel is separate from the competition because we take lots of time to research and choose the best studs to breed with our Dams. It took us over a year to make the final decision with Sativa’s stud. We want our clientele to know we will provide them with the image we have laid out for them.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
The hobbies we enjoy here at J&B Kennel are adventuring and hiking new places across Texas.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
Bully Girl Magazine is the perfect example of a classic! We truly love all the content and stories that are shared!
